If you take a look on the map you will see that Ljubljana is located right in the middle of Slovenia and more or less in the center of Europe, which is not only one of the best starting points to visit Slovenian beauties, but also some European jewels like Venice, Trieste, Vienna, Zagreb and so on.

It is a town of Bled, one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia and its fairytale scenery of the island in the middle of the lake fascinates every visitor. This Alpine lake town with the only island in Slovenia is a real paradise surrounded by mountains and nature. A walk around Bled lake:
A trail around the lake of six kilometers should be ok for everyone. During your walk you can also take a moment to rest on the bench and enjoy a pleasant view of the island in the middle of the lake, the Karavanke Mountains in the distance or simply observe swans and ducks and breath deeply. If you would like to extend your walk a bit more, turn up to Castle Hill or the nearby hills with a beautiful view of the lake and its surroundings. If you are visiting Bled in the summertime, you can even jump into the lake and freshen up a bit.
With a traditional “Pletna” boat to the Bled island:
Bled island is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Despite its small size, it has a rich history and many mysterious stories to be discovered. The symbol of the island is the Church of the Mother of God to which leads 99 a monumental staircase with 99 steps, from the 17th century. Another attraction is the bell of desires with a legend of a young widow. You have to visit it to hear the whole legend. You can arrive at the island with a traditional boat - the pletna boat. The first pletna boat was made around the year 1590, but it's structure and appearance has remained the same to this day.
Walk to the Bled castle and visit the Museum:
The oldest Slovenian castle stands on a steep cliff above the lake with an unforgettable view of the lake and wider surroundings. You can reach the castle along the promenade by foot or car. In addition to the beautiful view Bled castle attracts visitors with its history and picturesque architecture. The castle hides inside its walls a chivalry hall, castle chapel, castle print shop, castle cellar, herbal gallery and a museum.
Take a ride with “fjakarji” coach:
If you are not a fan of longer walks, you can feel Bled from a horse harness carriage called “fjakarji”. You can ride to the castle or around the lake. “Fijakarji” are open coaches with a long tradition that has been preserved from ancient times until today. The tradition can be noted most of all in the fijaker uniform outfit, complete with a jacket adorned of ruby red Gorenjska carnations, their top hats bouncing along as they whisk at you almost anywhere in Bled lake's vicinity. The driver can wait for you while you take your better half to a romantic drink or meal and then take you back. You can also take an individual trip to the nearby or distant surroundings.

Cream cake or kremšnita, as the locals call it, is a symbol of Bled gastronomy. You can find the cream cake in almost every pastry shop and restaurant. Over 15 millions cream cakes have been served in Bled since 1953 when pastry chef Ištvan Lukačević prepared the first one. You can get this dessert everywhere in Slovenia. It consists of a golden baked leafy lard, delicious vanilla cream, sweet cream and a crunchy leafy dough shaken with powdered sugar. It is served almost in every café and restaurant in the lake town.
